Relax in our comfortable great room with soaring windows overlooking mountain meadows and forests where wildlife and horses graze with the snow-capped peaks of the Continental Divide looming in the distance. Decorated with a comfortable Western flair, each floor has two bedrooms which share a bathroom. Guest groups are kept to their own floor level for maximum privacy. Two of the three levels feature full kitchens (for snacking and coffee breaks), and living areas with deep, comfortable seating, satellite televisions with DVD's, a library and telephone. Outside the lodge, two large porches with chairs and a porch swing are provided so you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery in comfort. An eight-person hot tub sits adjacent to the deck to help soothe aching bones after a long day. A campfire ring and horseshoe pit are also provided for your enjoyment. |
RECREATION
---
In the summer, our ranch is geared toward fly-fishermen, horseback riders, and those persons desiring a taste of the "Real West" on a true working ranch. With over 15,000 private acres bordered by National Forest, five private lakes, and well over fifteen miles of private stream. all carefully managed and located in intense beauty (that part managed by god): there are nearly limitless angling and riding opportunites. As owners of an Orvis Fly Shop, we can outfit all fly fishing needs: equipment, lessons and professional guiding. For riders, we have horses for all ability levels. We can lead you to the prettiest places on our 25 sq. miles of beauty. We also have a large outdoor arena for those who wish to brush up on their riding skills or take lessons. The ranch also features a professional trap range for wannabe Buffalo Bills or Annie Oakleys. Countless miles of hiking trails lead you through spectacular mountain scenery where wildlife abound. Wildlife viewers, bird watchers, and wildlife photographers delite in the seemingly endless opportunities for experiencing the areas wildlife in their natural environment. A 14' sailboat, kayaks, canoes, and personal pontoon boats are available for guests to enjoy our beautiful, 35 acre, private lake. Many guests choose to go out with our professional cowboys to experience real Western ranching in cattle drives, roundups, brandings, etc. Available participation in these cattle activities varies and is dependant on need (i.e. we aren't moving cattle unless it's time for them to rotate to a new pasture, our's is the real deal...not a show). In the winter, we turn our ranch over to to the more casual vacationer: kitchens are open for guest meal preparation and trails are groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
FOR CHILDREN
---
While we don't provide a formal children's program, children are allowed to partcipate with parents in many activities. Trail riding is open to those six and above. Children under 6 are allowed to participate in barn chores and "become friends" with the horses and various ranch animals. Our wranglers are always up for child participation. Fly fishing lessons are open to children based upon maturity and desire.
FOOD/LIQUOR
---
Meals are always described as extraordinary in the guest lodge journal. Our ranch cook is talented at home-cooking that forces belt buckles back a notch. Menus are diverse and we prefer to have contact with guests before they arrive to learn of their preferences and dietary needs. We can serve the meat lover, vegetarian and diabetic all at the same table. Three meals a day, how you like it, when you like it, with snacks provided in the open kitchen. Alcohol is not included, but guests are welcome to bring their own.
BUSINESS/MEETINGS
---
Business facilities are not formally provided. Large log dining tables which seat eight, and six separate bedrooms would make small business meetings possible.

REGION/CUSTOMS
---
Summer is geared toward fly-fishing and horseback riding. Guests can make their own schedule with our guides and wranglers. It's not unusual to have a husband/wife team going in opposite directions for the day. October and November are reserved for our big-game hunting packages. In December we re-open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing providing incomparable solitude.
HISTORY/HOSTS
---
The Buffalo Creek Ranch, aside from offering high-quality recreational opportunities, is foremost a working cattle ranch where we raise beef cattle, horses, and hay. Proper stewardship of the land is paramount to combine the two in the best ecological manner. We understand and believe that our ranch is home to abundant wildlife and we must share it with them. We strive to have our guests depart with a better understanding of what an important role ranches play in providing wildlife habitat and maintaining a balanced ecosystem. In a way, your visit, is a participation in our conservation efforts. We are proud of our Western ranching heritage and our devoted land stewardship.
ITINERARY
---
We believe our guests must get away from crowds to truly experience what a ranch has to offer. That's why, even with our large private land-base, we intentionally cater to as few guests as possible. You decide what you want to do, when you want to do it, and we'll accomodate however we can. Ride, fish, shoot, hike, and explore where and when you desire. Our guests go in their chosen direction with us along as guides. A typical three night package: - check-in at 4:00 in the afternoon, get comfortable in your lodging, and get acquainted with the ranch and your hosts. If fly fishing equipment is needed, get fully outfitted at our ranch fly shop. The first evening can be spent fly fishing, doing a horseback ride, going for a hike, or just relaxing on the front porch. Dinner will be the first meal included in your package. At dinner, your host will coordinate with you on the next days activities. - Days 2 & 3 After a hearty breakfast, you will participate in the pre-determined activities of your choice which may include: fly fishing with a guide, a streamside or lakeside lunch, guided horseback riding or lessons, boating on the lake, a guided natural history tour, hiking, trap shooting, wildlife viewing, or whatever else you may choose. Dinner is usually served around 6:30 (can vary depending on guest's preferences) in the lodge dining room or the front deck. After dinner, guests are free to enjoy the ranch as they desire. - Day 4 Breakfast and participation in chosen ranch activities until check-out time at 10:00 am. While we do offer 3 night packages, most guest find that a minimum of 5 nights is necessary to fully experience all that our ranch and area has to offer. Many guests enjoy spending a day or evening in nearby Steamboat Springs, taking-in a professional rodeo or shopping at the many galleries and shops. Despite our remote location, whitewater rafting, golfing, shopping, fine dining, and numerous designated wilderness areas are all within an hours drive of the ranch. Spectacular Rocky Mountain National Park lies within view of the ranch and is a "must-see" for those that have never visited it before.
