Scotlyn Ranch is an exclusive private ranch with only six lodge hotel style rooms and three cabins nestled in the heart of north central Idaho. Surrounded by Hells Canyon, the Bitterroot Forest, the Gospels and Seven Devils moutain ranges, as well as the Snake, Salmon, Clearwater, Lochsa, and Selway rivers, Scotlyn Ranch offers a multitude of adventures and activities both on their 3,000 acre private ranch and in the surrounding areas. Whether you desire a Jet Boat trip smashing though level 3 and 4 rapids in Hells Canyon, an ATV trip on their 25 miles of trails through forests and their 1,600 foot deep canyons, horseback riding, spa services, activity courses, hiking, spa services, or much, much more, Scotlyn Ranch offers a personalized luxury adventure destination that is second to none.

From your own private chef to high thread count sheets in our California King beds, to the serene soul nuturing wilderness, Scott and Jaclyn offer luxury, peace, and adventure all in one of the most beautiful places on Earth - Scotlyn Ranch is a place you will want to return again and again.

Good time to go

Anytime is good, but January through March can have the most questionable weather, but is also some of the best fishing. Idaho is known for wild weather swings, We have been in T-shirts in January and snow gear in May. May - December are probably the best weather wise, but frankly we believe it is beautiful all year round. For summer vacations, June-September have very little rain and although we can experience warm weather (80-90F during the day, sometimes approaching 95F or so), the evenings often cool down to the 50s or 60s, so make sure to bring a light coat even in August!

Children at the Ranch

Great for children aged 6 and over

We are a small and excluive family ranch. We prefer exclusive bookings, in which case the guests can bring children of any age, or keep it an adult adventure, their choice. When we have multiple groups visiting at the same time we will only book two or three families with children or two or three groups that are adult only, we make every attempt to not book adult vacations and family vacations during the same time period. All of our activities are guided/hosted by our staff.

Environmental & Social Practices

Environment

We believe in keeping Nature Natural! Although we are a luxury ranch, other than the grounds immediately surrounding the lodge and cabins, the rest of our land is kept natural as possible. Our grounds are not manicured like Disneyland. It is rugged, and beautiful, and natural! Although you will enjoy all of the luxurious comforts in our lodge, outdoors it is beautiful and rugged country. We have a large number of animal herds that share the property with our guests - Elk, deer, bear, and numerous species of birds and other wildlife. It is important to respect the fact that they live here as well. Enjoy watching them, do not perturb them.

Community

Scotlyn Ranch contributes regularly to numerous local groups including conservation groups, the local 4-H, and other local inititives.

Conservation

Scotlyn Ranch believes strongly in wildlife conservation. Prior to Scott and Jaclyn purchasing the ranch it was owned by a cattle association and the land was overgrazed, leaving very little forage for wild animals. Since Scott and Jaclyn bought the ranch, they have reduced cattle grazing to only two months a year (for spring growth to reduce wildfire risks) and have repurposed 130 acres of their 350+ acres of cultivated ground to plant grasses for bird habitat and food plots for Elk and Deer. When the ranch was purchased in 2015, there were no wild elk herds living on the property. Since then, three herds have moved onto the property and last year nearly 200 head of Elk wintered at Scotlyn Ranch. Numerous bird species have also relocated onto the property and the deer population has also grown substantially. Our guests regularly see large numbers of elk and deer in the fields behind the lodge in late summer and all through the fall months.

Ranch History

Scott is a originally from San Antonio, Texas and spent his career in the high-tech world, starting a number of successful internet companies. Among his other successes, he founded SecureTrust Corporation in 2001 and merged with Trustwave in 2007, ultimately selling to SingTel in 2015. He "retired" at 35 years of age and moved to the Caribbean where he met his wife Jaclyn. After spending several years living on St. Croix and traveling throughout the Caribbean on their sailboat, Jaclyn and Scott decided to explore the western United States to find a place to raise a family. They bought a Fifth-Wheel and traveled to 13 different states in search of a culture of people and land that they would eventually fall in love with.

North Central Idaho had never been on their radar, it was actually a stopping off point between Bend, Oregon and Big Sky, Montana, both rather high profile destinations. We stopped in Grangeville, Idaho for a couple of nights and simply fell in love with the area and the people here. It was like going back in time. People are greeted by their first names when going into the grocery store and rarely are cars locked... most people leave their keys in the ignition. It is unlike anywhere else we had visited.

This part of Idaho was settled in the 1890s and it was a difficult place to settle! Rugged mountains and canyonlands, although absolutely beautiful, demanded extremely stout and resolute people to homestead here. And when you think about it, this was only 3-4 generations ago! The people here are community oriented, hard working, and simply put - good people. It was just what we were looking for. We met with a real estate agent and began looking for a place to settle for ourselves.

The ranch we ended up buying wasn't actually on the market, but our real estate broker knew the owners and got permission for us to go look at it. It was owned by a group of cattle ranchers who had used it for grazing cattle since 1956. At nearly 3,000 acres it was made up of at least eight original homesteads that we have located, there had even been a school on the property many decades ago.

Upon our tour of the property in our real estate agent's Polaris Ranger, we were absolutely blown away by the beauty of the ranch. We had looked at no less than a dozen other ranches in other parts of the western United States, and we had visited all of the national parks along the way. NOTHING compared to what we saw here at this ranch. It was breathtakingly beautiful. We put in an offer and it was accepted. We couldn't have been happier with our choice!

It took us nearly four years of repairs, new construction and lots of blood, sweat, and tears to turn an old cattle ranch into a luxury adventure ranch destination for other families to come and enjoy, but we are now proud to share our lodge and ranch with you!

Local Attractions

Scotlyn Ranch Extreme ATV/UTV Canyon Adventure

In the normal way we do things here at Scotlyn Ranch, this adventure is completely customizable for your group and desires.  Whether you want to fly fish in our creeks and streams, swim in our private grotto, hike into remote spots in our canyon where few have ever gone before, rest and relax in a hammock in a pine tree forest, or just enjoy the ride and view the amazing wildlife, scenery and rock formations that we encounter, the choice is yours.

You can drive your own side-by-side, take a four wheeler atv, or just ride along while your host(s) take care of the driving so you can enjoy the vistas and scenery.

We will start at the lodge and take a two mile drive to where we descend into the canyon.  The descent is over 1,500 feet and there are some steep spots, so this adventure is weather dependent - too muddy or icy can make the trip dangerous (we have never had a problem and want to keep it that way!).  Our staff will advise and we can shift this adventure to the best day where conditions are safest during your vacation.

This trip is many of our guests favorite adventures.  Every adventure into our canyons is different, some guests spend hours swimming and playing in our private grotto, others enjoy hiking and discovering new places where few, if any people have ever been to before.  This is your vacation, and unlike other places where you are going on excursions with lots of other people, this is a private ranch and you get to decide what you want to do. You will not run into other people on our ranch - it is all privately owned, and yours to enjoy as you see fit.

Pricing is $225 per person, acceptable for all ages, must be 16 to be a driver.

Fishing / Wingshooting

If you love to fish, there are few places in the world that offer as many different world famous rivers and fishing opportunities as North Central Idaho and Scotlyn Ranch is smack dab in the middle of all of them.  From snow fed mountain creeks to the mighty Columbia River, we have it all within an hour or so drive from the ranch, many are closer. If you want to experience the ultimate river experience, please take a look at our Five Rivers in Five Days Package.  If you want to fish and bird hunt, we offer Cast and Blast packages. If you prefer to stay a la carte, you can add any of these adventures to your vacation and create your own customized vacation.

The Lochsa, Selway, and Clearwater rivers are to our east and the Salmon and Snake rivers are to our west and south.  The Columbia is to the northwest and mountain streams can be found in the Gospels and Seven Devils mountain ranges a short distance from the ranch.

There are whitewater rafting fishing trips, drift boat, jet boat and more.  Whether you want to fish for Salmon, Steelhead, Sturgeon, bass or trout, we have it all.  Contact us to set up your ultimate fishing adventure!
