Ranch History

With her passion for horses and design, Swiss owner, Uschi was looking for a place to create her dream. She found a peacful piece of land in the rural countryside of the beautiful Mexican Highlands and that was the place where she built Rancho Las Cascadas.

An ambitious concept, but one which she has successfully brought into being!

On her frequent visits to her beloved cultural town of San Miguel de Allende, the idea was born to provide the guests this fantastic experience in addition to the ranch.

Sister properties were acquired, and now guests can create their own intriguing mix of cultural activities and horseback riding.

Uschi and her team of talented and welcoming employees have worked hard to build this unique holiday experience, and they look forward to your visit and hope you will enjoy your stay.

The Setting

Private Land (250-1000 acres)

Our ranch's private property encompasses the luxury guest ranch as well as the paddock for our horses. But the whole region is open to our horses and guests for many wonderful riding opportunities.

Public Land (more than 50k acres)

Here at Rancho Las Cascadas we provide a unique riding experience for everyone.

Our public land is unlimited for riding, anything from a gentle stroll along the lake, cantering up the side of a hill, galloping across open countryside, crossing rivers, swimming with the horses in the lake or traversing rocky paths to the top of a mountain.

Our Riding

Guided rides

All rides are guided. There is no nose-to-tail riding, respecting the fellow riders.

Rides cater to all riding levels. Advanced riders can also enjoy fast-paced riding.

Less experienced riders will go out with a separate guide to ensure that everyone gets the best experience.

We take a great deal of pride to ensure that whatever length your stay is, your experience leaves you with unforgettable memories.

Riding Freedom

Being able to offer real riding freedom is our forte at Rancho Las Cascadas!

Choose from over 30 different trails, half- and full-day rides.

Plan your personal mix of rides, choosing from mountains, canyons, endless countryside, rivers, lakes, villages, markets, haciendas (colonial estates), churches, archeological sites and more!

Every morning or evening our team arranges with all guests the appropriate riding program for the next day considering riding level and fitness, with a maximum of six to eight riders per wrangler.

Riding considerations

no riding experience needed, We recommend a good level of physical fitness

Hours in the saddle

There is a choice of morning rides (2-4 hrs), afternoon rides (1-3 hrs), all day rides (5-6 hrs) and challenging all day rides (6-8 hrs).

Why our riding stands out

  • Gentle, responsive horses, great for beginners and riders who've had bad riding experiences in the past. We start or get you back on the horse again with confidence!
  • The riding at the rancho is in small groups according to riding experience.
  • Challenging rides are available too which is great for experienced riders looking to have a fast gallop across the plains - ask our concierge for more information.

Sample Riding Itinerary

In the morning, head to the breakfast room where the daily buffet breakfast awaits. During this time, a staff member will visit with the guests to see what their preferences are for the day.

You can choose to ride once or twice a day, or take one long all-day ride. Or perhaps you need the day off the horses and wish to relax – spend the day at the pool drinking Margaritas in the hot tub, or maybe take an excursion, or Mexican cooking class!

After each day's riding, you get back to the ranch where you can relax and unwind before a delicious dinner.

Each evening you will be served a delicious four-course dinner in the cozy dining room. All guests dine together, so you will have plenty of opportunity to discuss your adventures with one another.

Colorful folklore events may also be presented on special occasions, including traditional dance and music. You may even be invited for an impromptu Salsa lesson!

Do you play an instrument? Why don't you bring it along?

Perfect Family Vacation

We are a family of 4 - all beginners at horseback riding - and we just spent 5 exceptional days at the Ranch. We arrived at the Mexico City airport and were greeted by a representative from the Ranch who drove us the 90 minutes or so to our destination. The Ranch is in a beautiful and very rural part of Mexico, full of rolling hills, farms and small villages. The grounds are simply stunning and everyone who works there treated us like family. Everything is included in the price - exceptional meals, full bar, snacks whenever requested and, best of all, the horseback riding.
