Children at the Ranch
Great for children aged 16 and over
Vista Hermosa welcomes families, however, due to the nature of the 5-Day Horse Riding Program, it is recommend that younger riders must be aged 16 or older. This is to ensure the safety of both them and the horse.
For younger riders (16 and above), we suggest a minimum intermediate level of experience and the ability to confidently control their own horse. The trails can be challenging, and it's important that all riders feel comfortable and capable while exploring the beautiful landscapes of southern Arizona.
Please note that while there are no specialized programs for children, older kids and teenagers who meet our riding criteria are welcome to join in on the adventure!
We look forward to sharing the joy of horse back riding with your family at Vista Hermosa!

Environmental & Social Practices
Environment
Rancho Vista Hermosa is committed to implementing environmentally sustainable practices to minimize impact on the natural surroundings, while preserving the beauty of the Arizona desert.
Here are some of the environmental practices we prioritize:
Water conservation: Water-efficient fixtures and irrigation systems minimize water usage throughout the property. Additionally, we practice rainwater harvesting and implement drought-resistant landscaping to reduce reliance on municipal water sources.
Energy efficiency: Our facilities are equipped with energy-efficient lighting, appliances and HVAC systems to reduce energy consumption. Guests are also encouraged to conserve energy by providing information on energy-saving practices during their stay.
Waste reduction: Waste generation is minimized by implementing recycling programs, and offering reusable amenities and packaging options. Organic waste from the kitchen is composted and guests are encouraged to compost, too.
Sustainable practices: We source locally-produced goods and support local businesses whenever possible to reduce our carbon footprint, and support the local economy. Additionally, environmentally-friendly cleaning products are used to minimize pollution.
Nature conservation: We are committed to preserving the natural habitat surrounding the ranch by implementing land conservation measures and participating in habitat restoration projects. We also educate guests about the importance of respecting wildlife and preserving natural resources during their stay.
Education and outreach: We strive to raise awareness about environmental conservation among staff and guests through educational programs, workshops and informative materials. By fostering a culture of environmental stewardship, we aim to inspire positive change both within our community and beyond.
Our commitment to environmental sustainability is integral to our mission of providing guests with an authentic and responsible Western experience. We continually seek new ways to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to the preservation of the natural world for future generations.
Community
As a proud member of the Elgin community, Vista Hermosa is dedicated to supporting local initiatives and organizations that contribute to the wellbeing and prosperity of our neighbors. One of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to the community is by being a dedicated supporter of the Sonoita Fairgrounds.
The Sonoita Fairgrounds play a vital role, serving as a hub for various events and activities that bring people together and celebrate the unique spirit of the region. From agricultural fairs and rodeos, to community festivals and cultural gatherings, the fairgrounds offer opportunities for residents and visitors alike to connect, learn and enjoy the vibrant culture of southern Arizona.
Vista Hermosa proudly contributes to the maintenance and enhancement of this important community asset. By providing financial support, volunteering time and resources, and actively participating in events held at the fairgrounds, we aim to ensure its continued success and accessibility for generations to come.

Conservation
Vista Hermosa is deeply committed to conservation efforts aimed at protecting the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Arizona desert.
Here are some of the conservation practices we prioritize:
Habitat preservation: We actively work to preserve and restore natural habitats surrounding the ranch, including grasslands, riparian areas and desert ecosystems. By minimizing human impact and protecting native vegetation, we aim to maintain the ecological balance of the region.
Wildlife protection: We take measures to minimize disturbances to local wildlife populations and provide safe habitats for native species. This includes preserving natural corridors for wildlife movement, minimizing light and noise pollution, and implementing practices to reduce the risk of wildlife-human conflicts.
Water conservation: Water-efficient irrigation techniques ar eemplyed, such as drip irrigation and xeriscaping, to minimize water usage and prevent over-extraction of groundwater resources. Rainwater harvesting systems are also utilized to capture and utilize rainfall for landscape irrigation.
Energy efficiency: Energy-efficient practices and technologies are prioritized to reduce carbon footprint, and minimize energy consumption. This includes utilizing renewable energy sources, such as solar power, implementing energy-efficient lighting and appliances, and optimizing building design for natural heating and cooling.
Waste reduction: Waste generation is minimized by implementing recycling and composting programs, reducing single-use plastics, and promoting responsible consumption practices among guests and staff. Additionally, sustainable materials and products are sourced for use on the ranch.
Education and outreach: Guests, staff and the local community are educated about the importance of conservation through interpretive signage, educational programs and hands-on conservation activities. By raising awareness and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship, we empower individuals to take action to protect the natural world.
Through these conservation practices, Vista Hermosa is committed to preserving the unique ecosystems and biodiversity of the Arizona desert for future generations to enjoy. We believe that by working together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and ensure a sustainable future for all.
