Ranch History

To the mountain tribe of Ute Indians, Rawah was the word for 'abundance'.

Resting at 8,400 feet just south of the Colorado-Wyoming border, Rawah Ranch occupies a beautiful spot in the still practically undiscovered Laramie River Valley.

The railroad companies set our ranch legacy in motion when President Theodore Roosevelt signed the deed of trust for the land Rawah Ranch occupies as part of a land acquisition.

Soon after, our valley was added to what would eventually become the Roosevelt National Forest. With the passage of the Wilderness Act in 1964, our Rawah Wilderness Area was preserved indefinitely.

Earlier, in 1948, Ralph Jordan had the great foresight to establish Rawah Ranch, not as a cattle ranch, but as a place for guests to simply visit; to stay in comfortable accommodations, enjoy hearty meals and take in the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.

Today, Rawah Ranch seeks to capture the same original vision by welcoming guests from across the country and around the world to our historic mountain escape.

We believe the ranch’s legacy continues with each new visitor that makes this place their own – we can’t wait to welcome you home to Rawah!

Visitor Reviews

Dont just take our word for it, see what visitors like you say...

All and more than expected.

The mountain air of Colorado and such breath taking views. Be a part of nature, see wildlife that roam free. The cabins are settled in a valley and beside a stunning running river. It’s both relaxing but there so much to do. Spend your day with all kinds of activities to chose from. Such a great place to learn the art of fly fishing with experienced guides. Ride the trails whether a pro or beginner with actual cowboys or cowgirls. The food is prepared and served in the lodge. The quality is five star, from breakfast through to dinner. The staff are professional, knowledgeable and very personal able. Highly recommend Rawah.
